BRAIN DEVELOPMENT FOLLOWING PRETERM BIRTH

Ages: 0-12 month old premature infants

We are currently enrolling premature infants for a research study. Our study aims to
promote healthy brain development for NICU graduates by creating an early screening tool
for autism and other developmental disorders. Early screening and intervention can
significantly improve outcomes for children with developmental disorders.

What you will do:

Session 1: (1 session, ~2 hours) Child is 0-12 months

- Parent will answer a survey

- Both parent and child will provide saliva samples

- Child will wear a lightweight EEG cap while presented with social and nonsocial videos

- Parent and child will complete a recorded play interaction

- EEG may be repeated after 1 week

Session 2 (~4 hours): Child is 18 months

- Parent will answer a survey

- Both parent and child will provide saliva samples

- Parent and child will engage in a play session together

- Child will wear a lightweight EEG cap

- Child will complete a cognitive and social assessment

Participants will be compensated at a rate of $25/hour up to $50 for Session 1 and up to $100 for Session 2.
